kyote,
The main sound files in question are:
http://www.stancourtney.com/sounds/04.04.2006IllinoisHowl.mp3http://www.stancourtney.com/sounds/04.07.2006IllinoisHowl.mp3http://www.stancourtney.com/sounds/04.12.2006IllinoisHowl.mp3I hear coyotes every night, and I record them all the time. Sometimes close and sometimes far away.
This howl does not sound like it is of the canine family to me. I have not heard any recordings that sound like this one. But everyone hears things differently.
This animal came through on three different nights and I recorded it each time. Last spring I heard a sound that resembled a roar at the same location (unrecorded). The sound was one of the loudest I have ever heard. It appeared to be coming from a huge chest.
This sound file has been posted on several other forums and I have received probably 200 responses and emails. The answers have been wide and varied.
If I posted a standard coyote howl 99% of the readers would immediately say coyote. Same goes for a wolf or dog. This is different with many different responses.
I record every night for about 10 hrs. I have fox, coyote, mountain lions and bobcat on this creek. There are a lot of different sounds and I will eventually get more from this same animal.
What is curious is that my dog barks at the coyotes but howls when this animal come through.
Thanks,
Stan
