Oh No More Snow
« on: April 11, 2006, 08:37:16 AM »
Got two inches yesterday (Monday), Got three more inches this morning and still coming down hard.  May have trouble driving to the cabin this evening.  Might just park the pickup at Clearsky and snowmachine in.  Ment to leave this morning but the wife set up an appointment to do our taxes this afternoon.  After that I'm out of here.

Down south ain't nothing left.  Riding a bicycle would do you better than a snowmachine right now. :D

We had 4-6" last night and more today and more tonight. I just do not get it when Fairbanks is getting 3-6" they call it a Winter Storm Warning, and when Valdez gets 10-12" they call it flurries. :-D

Got seven more inches Tuesday.  But it sure was beautiful yesterday.  I went down to the Alaska Range, rode into a friends cabin.  We checked for Bears, found no sign of them being out yet.  Checked a few den sites, still no action there.  The day was a bit overcast, but nice.   Had a friend hit some ice thrust up on the river bed.  Ice damaged the cooling tubes run through his running boards.  Lost all his antifreeze, had to be towed home.  As we came out the Totatlanika was flowing and open.  We had our tracks break through the ice as we went in in the morning.  But the river was open and flowing when we cameout in the evening.  Aimed ourselves up stream, hit it going about 45mph.  No problem.  Started the towed machine up and drove it across.  I had planned on staying there for a few days, but after seeing the river open I decided I did not want to be stranded in there for a few weeks during breakup when the rivers rise.

Gotta love that engineering that puts the heat exchanger under the running boards. DUH
Lots of snow in those mountains if I was a bear I would go back to bed and wake up when it's almost gone...

It snowed on me and the dogs when we went for our mornings walk.  I hear that the State had to get the snow plows out, and that there is 15 inches up at the North end of the Island.

It is snowing way too hard.  One friend made it out shrimping today and pushed slush all the way back to port.  It is difficult to tell how much snow we had today because it rained a bit too and the snow is so wet.  I had to brush the boat in the harbor off once and a firend is doing it again tonight for me. I would suspect that in town they had a foot and maybe a little more out my way, 9 miles out.

When its spring time in Alaska we get 2 foot of snow.

Maybe the melt has begun in Dillingham. Think it went close to 40 today - finally.  But still lots of snow after last weekend's dump.  Saw a big flock of geese fly over but danged if I know where they'll eat.  They better head back to salt water as none of our lakes are open. Saw a sea gull and a varied thrush yesterday - signs of spring for here.
