Savage 340
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:03:43 PM »
 Found a Savage 340 at the pawn shop today. It's missing the mag and needs cleaning. The stock needs some work. It's all there except the mag(Gun Parts-Numrich has them) and it's in 30-30. Got it for a song($42). Anybody have any experience with them. Thanks in advance. Hunman55

GREAT find.  I've been looking for a .30-30 Savage 340 for a while now.  Very classic deer round, but i'm just not a fan of levers, so this one is a great choice.

BTW, if you're thinking of scoping it, B SQUARE makes a side-mount specifically for the 340 that will place the rail inline with the bore.  Costs a bit more than a Weaver #1, but well worth the $$$ in my opinion.

I caught up to you in my thread as well Hunman55. Check the stamp on your rifle and see if it says Chicopee Falls Mass? If it does i believe it was made before 1960. In my researching i found that Savage moved their operations to somewhere else in Mass in 1960 so that leads to me to think that they would change their stampings to note the new location. Both my 340's were made in Chicopee Falls.

Congrats on the new shooter, let us know how she shoots :D

I have one if you're interested.  I dont know much about it other than it's a savage super-sporter .30-.30
