 Nobody wants to answer this one? 6 to 8 oz. in thickness depending on the size of the knife. In leather working, 1 oz. equals 1/64 th of an inch. My 2sense. Hunman55

I just buy a wide belt blank. 'Cheaper than large pieces and no waste.

How big is the knife? A really big knife would want heavier (10-12 oz). A smaller one maybe 5-6 ounce.

I go the heaviest veg tanned leather I can get!
Usually 8-9 oz, but every now and then, I can find some 10-11.
I want it to last as long as the klnife!
