A copy of "Successful Black Bear Hunting" by Bill Vaznis just landed on my doorstep.  Its 143 pages long but thank goodness its got lots of pictures!!  Read'n the long books is hard fer me! :)  I'll post another report when I'm finished reading it, that shouldn't take more than a month or two!

I've read to page 43 and I'd say the guy is pretty straight forward and at least gives the appearance of knowing what he's talking about.  Good pictures too!

I Own the book, thought it was rather soft, a book I recommend is Dr. Ken Nordbergs "do it yourself Black Bear Baiting and Hunting"
Mine is a 2001 edition not sure if he has an updated edition or not.

The guy spends a lot of print talking about baiting and here in the PRC ya just can't do it.  I'm still enjoying the book.  I'm only half way thru it, maybe he spends some time on spot and stalk.

I agree that Bill Vaznis' book is a bit soft, and I find Dr. Norberg to be pretentious.

I would reccomend "The Education of a Bear Hunter" by Ralph Flowers. His book is written from experience, by a self made hunter who killed a couple thousand bears as both a recreational hunter and a paid hunter for the timber companies of Washington state.

I just read Flower's book, didn't care much for it, pretty much the same thing all the way thru'.  Some of it sounded kind of far out, shooting bearswith .22's, etc.  Just my opinion.
