Buckshot in modified choke
« on: April 15, 2006, 05:35:21 AM »
I recently picked up a used 12ga. pardner with a modified choke.  Can I shoot #4 buck through it.  I wasnt sure if it would hurt the barrel or not.

Sure can! You can shoot buckshot through a full choke too, so modified is no problem at all.

You can shoot ANY KIND of lead bird shot, buck shot or lead slugs through that MODIFIED CHOKE without hurting it whatsoever.

STEEL SHOT and BUCKSHOT is a whole 'nother matter!  Don't shoot steel in your barrel!  But anything lead is SAFE.

Couger,

Are you saying there is such a thing as STEEL buckshot? Never heard of it. :?  I know they make T,BBB,BB, 1,2,3,4,6,7 bird shot in steel, but have never seen it in buckshot.

I have seen and used Copper Plated & Nickle Plated LEAD buckshot, but they would also be safe to use.

Steel buckshot?

Yeah, I have seen it!  I was thinking about the T, TT, F, and FF sizes as I wrote the above, but during 'Vietnam' the SEAL's used all-brass 12 Ga rounds with steel OOB (used a large rifle primer).

My mother taught school with a lady who's hubb was a SEAL out of Coronado, KA.  My daddy flew helicopters for the NAVY during that time.  More than once my dad got a freebee.

Couldn't happen now!, not with today's paranoia and political correctness.

OK, got ya! I was thinking commercially available buckshot, not military rounds.
