splake or speckle?

is this fish a splake or a speckled (brook) trout?



i and a few other people say its a speckle but somebody else swears its a splake?  thoughts?

That is a nice fat lil Brook Trout. How big was he and did he taste good???
 
I believe a Splake is a Brook Trout/Lake Trout mix hybrid. That looks all Brookie to me.

never took a measurement  :(  of it but i would say 10-11 inches

and ya a splake is a brook trout/laker hybrid

The only real way to tell a splake from a coaster brookie is to gut it and count how many pyloric caeca.  Those are the small finger like projections of the stomach.  Otherwise they can look pretty much like either depending on the environment they are living in.  Trout have 23-55, splake 65-85, and lake trout usually have at least 90 and  can have up to 200.
