New Rifle
« on: April 22, 2006, 06:04:59 PM »
I am looking to buy a new rifle.  I am currently in the Marine Corps and would like to possibly make a M40 Sniper rifle but don't have the money to spend on a model 700.  I am trying to find a cheap Remington model and have found the 710 but I am not sure of the quality. I know it is an inexpensive rifle but I am just going to shoot out to maybe 300 yards, not 1000 like the Marines that I serve with.  Any suggestions let me know thanks!
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

319,
Not sure but I think I've heard some bad reports on the 710...check around. If it were me save up and get a 700. The 700 VLS are about the cheapest 700s and they are tack drivers out of the box! Hope this helps. :D

I don't know if ANY of them are cheap...or "affordable" as posted here......the VLS  retails for 817.00 in the catalog....probably 600's at the shops..The 700 Remington SPS has a catalog price of 559.00 , and probably can be had for the 349 to 400 dollar range at Wally World.  I saw a great looking 700 ADL Laminated stock in a .270 and 30-06 at Wally here in Missouri for 439.00  ..now THAT is affordable. Also I would check into some of the online sites...I have seen some New in the Box ADL's in walnut and blued for under 450 bucks....they don't make the ADL's anymore, but I have had one in a .270 for years, and it has never disappointed me.  Just my 2 cents   No offense guys...guess afordable is in the eye of the wallet....

If you are going to make a M40 sniper rifle but can not afford a 700 and are looking to buy something cheaper to start your building block with. You will not save any money.Brownells has actions for the 700's in both long and short actions.they even have others that are supposed to be "Better"then the 700s.
try the pawn shops and buy one there.are go to guns america.com and check it out.they have good deals there also.
you will spend bucoo money building one just the mac stock is around 800.00retail.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.
