Scout Scope mounts?
« on: April 23, 2006, 04:00:20 PM »
OK, I just picked up a Swedish Mauser 96 1899 Carl G. in a sporter stock, so I don't mind doing a little to this one.  Actually the barrel and action have not been modified in any way. I'm thinking of mounting one of the scout scope mounts on it like the B-Square , this way I won't be doing any major harm right away. I found the B-Square at Brownells at about $65.  As I understand it there are other options available from other companies, any names, contacts and comments would be appreciated. I already have a 2X and a 4X pistol scope to try on it, think I'll start with the 2X first.
I do have a very nice all matching Swede Model 96, 1912 Carl G.  that shoots very well and have been wanting a sporter in the 6.5X55 for a while.
If this new action shoots well I may shorten to 22" and use it as a field gun.  If I like the scout scope system I'll keep it that way.  I actually like the streight bolts on my Swede 96, the VZ24 and my 24/47.
The VZ24 is actually an odd duck, chambered in 30-06 when I bought it, put Mo-Jo sights on it , very accurate with my 55 yr. old eyes and fun to shoot.

S&K Mounts make a mount for the Small Ring Mausers

Kind of pricey at $115 but that is the mount and rings.

Darrell does not make a mount for the mausers like he does for the K31's and Mosins or I would reccomend him. That said get a S&K. The BSquare and their knock offs are junk! You may be paying a bit more but as was pointed out that does include rings too so if you put the prices side by side and look at the quality the S&K is the way to go. I have heard too much bad stuff about Bsquare stuff and I have had some copies and they are not that great. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
