extractor/ejector
« on: April 25, 2006, 12:18:35 PM »
I just bought my second plastic handi this one in 22 hornet std brl, my first is a 17 hmr bull brl. Both rifles will eject a loaded or empty round with enough force to send the brass about 8 to 10 feet behind me. I am not complaining about this I was just wondering if this is normal for newer mdl handies.

45north, what are the 2 prefix letters of your serial numbers? These letters will tell us when your gun was manufactured, the .22 Hornet may have been produced in 2005 with an ejector (you lucky guy!)  Alledgedly the new (2006) Handi's all have the newer and cheaper extractors, you may have lucked out and gotten one of the last ejector fitted barrels. You would have no problem selling it through this board. As far as I know the rimfires are still ejector fitted and may hopefully remain so but centerfire barrels are reportedly going to extractors  :( . Your new .22 Hornet barrel with an ejector is a desirable item and there are a couple of members here now that are looking for them. If you want to sell the ejector fitted .22 Hornet barrel I suggest you contact member 'RemingtonMagnum" and giving him first refusal on it, he is a nice guy and has been looking for one....<><....

Thank you for the reply,

I do not know what to say, I just went down to my only local FFL dealer here in Tok and asked him to order me a 22 hornet in a plastic handi rifle and that is what I got. (The first two letters of the hornet handi are NT). I bought it as a cheap shooter that I could strap to the rack on my ATV and use on rabbits, grouse and other small game. I really like the fact that the empty shell is thrown out of the chamber and I don't have to play fumble fingers clearing the chamber.

The T denotes a 2003 build date, they didn't start with extractors until 2004.

My new 17hmr flips the shell out about 10'. I'm very happy about it too. Wish my .223 was an ejector.

I have emailed H&R and expressed my displeasure with the new extractor and told them I hoped that ejectors would be an option on future additional bbls. If anyone feels the same as I do, you might want to let H&R know.

My new 25-06 & 280 barrels are both the new extractor type...It does take some getting used to..but..it isn't as bad as I thought it would be...and Jon at NEF is doing a fantastic job of fitting them... both of mine are super tight in the lock up...the absolute best I've seen from them...I do still prefere the ejectors..but..I really don't believe NEF will change back..

Are the new extractors positive type?

Well that ought to take care of the ejection problems that some have had. If they are positive extractors, they will pull out a stuck case.
