reamer rental-what pilot

I was looking at the reamerrentals.com website.  They ask whether you want a solid or floating pilot.  Which do I want to go to 445 Super with my 44 mag?

IIRC, a floating pilot can be ordered in multiple sizes in .002" increments to get the best fit in the bore, solid pilot options aren't as flexible, may not offer as good a finished chamber.

I agree with Quick, the floating being the better.  It would also less likely to score the rifling

 ..but,

With a straight walled cartridge like the 44mag being reamed to the longer 445SM,  I honestly dont think you'll need a pilot.   The reamer will be nearly all the way in the barrel to start, with only having to lengthen the chamber.

It wouldn't be like going from a .22 hornet to a .225 winchester where the bore/rifling would be your only means to guide the reamer because of completely reshaping the chamber itself.  ....not just lengthening it.

I used the reamerental reamer, and even the smallest pilot would not go in the barrel. The barrel slugged out at .432" but the lands of the rifleing were a smaller bore than the smallest pilot. Most of the guys that have done the job did'nt use the pilot. Digger
