Reloading advise for the encore
« on: April 29, 2006, 03:53:03 PM »
Looking for some pointers folks.I have reloaded extensively for bolt action rifles, but never for a single shot. I just purchased a factory barrel in 7-08, and am looking for some advise on bullet seating depth, or any other tricks you have. I have decided to full-length resize the cases, to make things easier in the field. Any tips or advise is greatly appreciated!!!

Resize the cases so the action just closes easily but no more than that.

When seating the bullet, seat it so that the action just closes easily and no more; this will ensure that the bullet is seated near the lands.

What Grumulkin said, except I try to determine bullet seating depth with the barrel off the frame, with the bullet you want to load in a once fired case. Maybe try a search here on the subject and you'll probally turn up a wealth of information. My 7-08 seems to be pretty touchy about headspace/resizing as far as accuracy goes. Some say to measure the gap between your frame and the breech of your bbl. with a feeler gauge (action locked up) then adjust your sizing die so that the case head prodtrudes from the breech face just a thousandth or two less than the measured gap. :?  Clear as mud? :D
Hurrah fer mountain doin's- :D
