New paint job for the Handi .243
« on: April 29, 2006, 04:15:55 PM »
Being as it rained off and on all day and I got finished rapping the windows in the room we are finishing for the boys over the garage, I decided to start a little paint project I have been putting off. This is the first step in the new camo job for my beloved Handi .243. I just did the barrel and scope today, and will get to the receiver in a week or so. I first had to see how this turned out. I think it looks pretty cool for my first paint job on a rifle. I used the Krylon Camo Fusion paint for this part. I first primed it and then put two coats of the Olive Green after that. What do you guys and gals think.

Looks good, but I have a question...did you paint the bottom of the barrel where it fits against the frame on each side? Donno if paint is thick enought to affect lockup, but I think it would affect how it shoots since the paint has some thickness and lockup is real important on a Handi, it won't be able to close as tight against the standing breech. It might change as the paint wears off, too. Opinions Fred?

Thanks for the concern Tim. I taped all that up before hand. It locks up still just as secure as it did before.  :D

Tim.
If the action was bedded with Devcon Steel putty like mine is, the paint thickness of 3-4 Thou would stop the barrel from closing.

A non bedded action from what I have seen would have enough gap for the paint to be inconsequential. But you should check the gap with feeler gages to make sure the paint will not stop the action from closing.
