Hello everyone,
I just ordered a new Marlin 1894SS in 44 mag. Is there anything I should do to it before shooting it? I have read about guys suggesting that they should be "Lapped"? (I think this is using metal polish on a cleaning patch to smooth the bore out) Others have suggested "mauraders site" that gives instructions on taking apart the gun & polishing some parts to make the action smoother and more reliable. So I was just curious. Any tips will be great.

Personally I would shoot it to see if it needs work. work the action about a 1000 times and it will take care of some of the polishing for you. Do it while watching TV at night it drives the wives nuts :grin:

I already planned on working the action a few (1000) times before I mess with anything. Just wanted to make sure that was the right course of attack.

I've got the same gun, and it was stiff early on, but now it's slick as oiled silk. It's always shot well, but I broke the barrel in very carefully. After 500 rounds it started to smooth out, and nowadays, after about 3000 rounds, it couldn't possibly get any better. Mine wears a 2X Scout Scope, and is easily my favorite blaster. And with ammo it likes, any five-shot group over an inch at 50 yards is MY fault, not the gun's. You have chosen well, Grasshopper!
