Hey Bubba, I can only think of one story that is kinda specific to huntin with a SSR (except my Muzzle loader) and I ain't really all that proud of it but it sure gave my huntin buds a chuckle or three.
Being the only SSR shooter in my huntin party I 'm use to all the camp fire ribbin you can amagine when it comes to singles. You know the ones like no time for a followup shot (my come back is as always don'y need one), and things like whats the matter your wife won't let you have enough money to buy a real rifle, or your wife to scared to let you have more than one bullet, ya da ya da ya. Well us SSR shooters know better so we just let em yak. Well the second day of the season a few years back and after an extreme teasing session around the camp fire the night before I was trying to shake off a hang over and waiting for the sun to come up when a nice 6 pointer stepped into the narrowest of the 3 shooting lanes I had setup on. The sun had come up just enough to be legal to shoot and to my surprise the buck lowered his head to feed. No need to hurry so I raised the rifle, cocked the hammer on the NEF 30-06 and squezzed off a perfect 50 yrd shot right behind the shoulder. Trouble was that I had forgot to load the darn thing after climbing the tree and the 6'er, hearing the hammer fall (or me saying %#*&@#) not sure which, step into the thicket never to be seen again. Needless to say, neither me nor my SSR have lived that one down yet.
