Nasem, you mentioned a 55 gr bullt for the 06. Quote2) Heavier bullets, with the 30-06, you can get the 55 grain ALL the way up to 220. I've never seen a load for one that light. Do you happen to have one?

Wil be used for deer sized game or smaller. MAYBE just MAYBE an Elk?

an example of a .270 hit..saturday nite..i spent 3 hours on a DARK..DARK night blood trailing a nice 9pt my brother shot. good blood..here and there..up and down a mountain ..including jumping up a 4ft rock ledge.when we found him at first light sunday morning..he had a front leg that was completely fractured and the lower portion of his ventricles were gone from the bullet strike.a 1 mile tracking job..on a 110lb dressed out whitetail, that would have been negated if a larger caliber had been used.this has been a routine, since my brother has gotten his hands on a .270 a bolt. the gun shoots like a dream..and will put a dozen rounds into a clean hole..but....i really think the caliber is lacking some weight..and frontal mass.granted every deer is different in shot placement and other issues..but out of the 30 deer my brother has taken, other than some neck shots he has pulled off..NO DEER HAS EVER BEEN BROKEN DOWN..all deer have been blood trailed in excess of 100 yards.out of 5 hunters in our camp..we took a poll..the most any deer hit with a 30 caliber rifle has been 75 yards or so..most dropping within eyesight.why is it that a .308 or 30-06..does that..its 30 grains in weight..and frontal mass..shock factor.i use to think that elmer keith was full of himself..about the .270 comments..i have come to the realization that the round is a "damned adequate coyote round"..
