Fair price?
« on: May 04, 2006, 01:37:23 AM »
What would be a fair price to have a Remington 760 blued by a gun smith? I do want a very good job, and I don't mind paying him a decent profit, but I would prefer to have some idea where his prices should be. We're new to this area so I have never haven't had any work by him as yet.

Fair price?

Prices such as this are pretty local.. and usually represent demand/skill and name recognition. First let me quantify what it is we're looking at..machine buffed(i.e. not hand polished) and hot salt blued with a 'hunter finish'. This level of polish is what you'd find on most corporate factory made guns. Also the weapon we start with has not major pitting or damage or other faults to be repaired with the reblue. Locally the shops are charging from a low of $125-140 to a high of over $350. The latter is a really nice job and probably shouldn't be in the group considering the parameters.

It would be strictly just the polish and blue back to factory original. I've used it for better then 40 years so the bluing is worn off here and there, but it has never seen any dings or rust.
I use my guns a lot, but I clean and oil them like crazy too because we have lived on the sea for most of those years. And while that salt air may smell good, it sure eats metal fast if you don't keep your guns well oiled.
