Cant find caliber ID numbers

As most as yous know I had a chance to pick up a couple of sporterized
military rifles.I ended up with a nice 1893 german mauser in 7x57 cal..,
and a Spanish mauser in 7.65 caliber,while looking at some of my own
guns,I found my Remington 1917in 30-06.These Rifles dont have the calibers mark anywhere,I looked all over the barrels,actions and the floorplates,I couldn't find any calibers marked anywhere.I'm thinking about getting them marked with a laser or a dremal.
Have any of you had this done with your guns?What should I do? :?

I wouldn't expect to see a mark on a milsurp barrel that indicated the cartridge the rifle was chambered for. After all the army supplied all the ammo and knew what cartridge to supply. Etching the information on the barrel will lessen the value of a collector grade rifle, but if it has mismatched numbers it wouldn 't hurt, although I doubt if the expense would be worth it. If the information is for you, or people who may shoot your rifles, you can some non permanent way to indicate which ammo to use, i. e., paint.  :wink:

These rifles have real nice monte-carlo stocks,and no rust.I'm NOT thinking about
selling them.I have yet sold any of my surplus guns and I started in the
'70's,,I did have a brake-in,in the 80's and lost around 12rifles and shotguns.I really dont want to paint the calibers.I'm kind of interested in
this laser techneke application. :?
