Are you superstitious?
« on: May 07, 2006, 08:01:47 PM »
Sorry for this, but I'm an insomniac, it's 2 am and I'm bored to death. This just popped into my head, so I figure I'd share.

Today, it occured to me how strange my luck is, espcially considering how darn hard it is to find DWs where I am on the East Coast. There is this one local dealer I've been going to for years, with odd coincidences lately.

You see, there's this one corner, in one of the display cases, which has the eerie tendency to always contain what I'm looking for. When I was looking for an older, low-cost starter DW in .357, there's a W12 complete (and unfired!) pistol pack sitting in "my" corner. I wanted to look at a Monson DW Mod. 15. One is waiting for me in my corner. When I was looking for a S&W 442, I go down there to look, and sure enough, there's a 442 sitting there. When I wanted to start a Smith N-Frame collection, I dreamed about how it would be to ogle the big bore on a nice Mod. 25, especially one that took the long colts. Guess what's in my corner? A S&W 25-2. After that I was leafing through some gun books, pining for a smooth, sleek S&W Mod. 14 or 15. Later I take a drive down to the gun shop. Yep, it's a K-38 Masterpiece sitting in my corner.

Which leads me to today. I have had this thing for the DW 357 SM. I don't know why, but I just love that particular gun, and have wanted one for years. So I happen to be thinking about that gun this weekend, and how great it would be if I found one. I go down to the shop this afternoon. Guess what's in "my" corner?

This is a small dealer. The chances that I'd find what I'm looking for, and always in that same corner, and with such specific and uncommon items, should be incredibly slim.

You guys ever see that movie "Needful Things"?

EDIT: Oh, and, hello everyone!  :D

Don't question it, just enjoy it as long as it last.

That would give me that "'little tickle" deep down.  You found you "honey hole" with out buying that $10,000 boat.  I'm just wondering, are you bragging? :-D

No, just sharing is all. Even if I were, I'm sure anyone else's DW collection would cut my ego down to size in a heartbeat.

I went down to look at it again today. It is in fact, a 375 SM, and made in Monson, too. I bought it regardless. It's just such a beauty, I don't care if I have to fabricate my own brass!

Is it really luck or has the shop owner figured out you will suddenly find a need to buy whatever he puts in that corner of the display case. Maybe he's sending subliminal messages to you. I think you need to contact Ghostbusters or the X Files. too much co-incidence

Yeah, well anyway, I blew it because I asked him where all these DWs were coming from. He said that some guy has a bunch of them, and he's slowly getting rid of his collection. Basically the guy is dumping them for cheap. I should have told him to just write my name on the tag and set it aside whenever one comes in.

And next time I go back, I'll try to visualize a 10.4mm Reichsrevolver NIB before I leave. :>
