encores and primer marks
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:30:37 AM »
today i went and shot some loads thru my .260 encore. i know i'm near max with my some of my loads but there is no signs of high pressure as of yet. however, i have noticed with just about all of my loads that when i remove the spent case from the chamber that the firing pin dent in the primer has a rough ring/edge around it. the primers are not flattened out and i'm seeing no case rings. ever seen this?

Sounds like you are getting "cratered primers". This is a sign that pressures are too much with that combo. I would lower the powder charge, your accuracy will probably improve on the real long shots.

P.S. There is a saying that goes like this:
If the bullet moved... that is a sign of high pressure.
Be carefull out there, an extra 50-100 fps are not worth your gun, or your eyes.
