I'm curious how many states allow it during the muzzleloader season.

Michigan does not.

according to data in the Blackpowder Hunting Fall 2004 issue the following states do not allow nitrocellulose based powders:
AZ,CO,DE,ID,IL,LA,MA, MI,MS,MT,NJ,NM,ND,OR,SC,SD,UT,VTVA,WA,and WI. I suspect there may have been some changes since then but that is the way it was in 2004.

Smokeless is an approved blackpowder substitute in Illinois. Last year was the first it was legal.

Like Keith mentioned above, not in Colorado. Also no scopes, sabots, and no bullets longer than twice the diameter of the bore. At least durring muzzleloading season.

VA. is getting ready to go smokeless July 1st if approved in DGIF meeting June 20th. The proposed regs, however have a minimum of 50 grains which would be dangerous with smokeless powder. I sent them an email to at least make them aware of the potential hazard, can't say they weren't warned.

I won't go with smokeless myself, my rifles are more accurate with Triple 7 than most modern rifles anyway!!

There are slower powders that more than 50 gr is safe. Also isn't the wording 50 gr or equivelent?

Proposed regs are "50 grains of blackpowder (blackpowder equivelent or smokeless powder)".

I maybe wrong, but how many people are going to know or check the difference in smokeless powders. If you decide to shoot smokeless you should be aware of this before you load the gun, I would hope anyway.

I got an email back Monday from DGIF which said they are including in the wording to follow the guns makers recommendations in regards to smokeless powder. Sounds like they will approve it to me along with $5 increase for each license....will know for sure by July 1st.
