Marlin Model 36 A- DL
« on: May 11, 2006, 08:18:09 AM »
I have a well used model 36 A-DL in 30-30.  I need to disassemble it and work on the action.  It will lock up if you cycle it quickly.  Which annoyed my brother when he was trying for a quick followup shot.  What I want to know is if the model 36 and 336 are the same inside.  Marlin wasn't any help, this model has been out of their system long enough they couldn't even give me a build date, let alone a parts breakdown.  The old gal has been around awhile, the butt stock has been repaired at the wrist where it has been broken.  Been in the family for a long time.

I have a Model 36 A-DL, 24" barrel. Nice rifle. They were made in the 40's as an improvement to the Model 1936. Mine was made in 1948 right before the 336 came out.  They are virtually the same. The 336 has a new type of bolt (round instead of "square"), an improved extractor and cartridge carrier but I can't tell that much difference. I have never taken either completly apart but for cleaning purposes you do the same on both. Partially open the lever and take out the lever pivot cross-screw then remove the lever downward. Then you can remove the bolt toward the rear. Your model 36 action may just need a good cleaning and a very light coat of oil. It's amazing how much grime can get in these things and they still operate properly ... but there is a limit.

Thanks.  Guess I'll wait until the boys are gone for a day or two and dive into a little home gunsmithing and tear it apart.
