6mm Bench Rest
« on: May 12, 2006, 04:49:56 AM »
Any one shoot the 6mm BR out of a Contender or Encore?  I'm considering purchasing a barrel for my Encore was wondering how they shoot?

Thanks,

Turk

Turk, I recently got a barrel from MGM 15 7/8" for my Encore in 6mm BR. and love it. Haven't shot it a lot yet, but with AA#2520 and a 80 gr. bullet,I'm pushing it around 2800 fps. groups are under 1 1/2"@ 200 yards. So yes I'm pleased. recoil is nothing, maybe like a .223. I'm toying with the idea of using it on whitetails, but with a heavier bullet. Richard..

The 85-grain Nosler Partition was designed for this and similar handgun cartriddges on deer - it has the velocity and the penetration to get the job done out of the little BR case.  Note that none of the BR cartridges are safe in the T/C Contender, just the Encore.

Thanks for the information.

My barrel ships today and my Redding dies should be here about the same time so I look forward in see what this round will do out of a 10" barrel.  Deestalker:  what twist is your barrel?  Mine is 1-12"

Thanks,

Turk

Because rifles with 12" twists will very seldom shoot 100-grain bullets accurately, with its lower velocity I'd expect the maximum bullet weight/length for a handgun with this rate to be 85/87 grains.

:D  Turk, mine is a 1-10 twist, I had thought about the 1-12, but wanted  to shoot heavier bullet. Richard..
