New IAC Branded 1887 12 gauge lever shotgun Pictures
« on: May 12, 2006, 05:05:01 AM »
Here are some pics of the IAC branded 1887 12 gauge I recently picked up........................pumps and auto shotguns are restricted in Australia since 1996 (had to hand in 2 Rem 870's )

so this is it as far as repeating 12 gauge shotguns go for most Aussies...............when they came in I just had to have one, the looks have grown on me and to me it's an attractive looking shot gun in it's own way. It's finished quite well considering it's made in China and they have a rep for turning out crappy products. Ame yet to fire it but hope to in the coming weeks it weighs around 8 pounds and feeds + ejects live rounds flawlessly, it has a 2 shot feed system where you just place two rounds straight in and close the lever. It maye not be as fast as my old pumps but it's better than nothing !!

Have placed a slip on recoil pad and a elastic butt shell holder all ready for chasing some vermin from the back of the ute

Different looking shotty, that is for sure.

What makes this legal and not the 870 since they are both repeaters? Is it the shell capacity? Or is it the action? Wouldn't a double barrel be quicker for a follow up shot and to reload?

I would have had a tough time giving up one 870, let alone two!  I remember watching some footage of them destroying your guns back then, still makes me cringe when I think about it. :x  I just can't imagine having to hand over a gun I legally bought and paid for to be destroyed. You must have had some guys with huge collections just about flip their wig? :(

Does that gun have a fixed choke and how does it compare in price to a low end double?

Busta this gun has a 20" cylinder barrel, but models with chokes and longer barrels will be available in the future. I think in the US you can buy them from a shop called Davidsons........................apparently they got 800 in and they all sold in 3 hours.

Another shop called Coyote Cap Gun Works customises them for SASS, the owner of this place was the person who got the whole 1887 re-introduction happening.

Thye banned pump and auto shotguns and semi auto centerfires after that idiot shot people in Tasmania, apparently our ignorant head of state John Howard banned pump action shotguns as they are often seen in movies etc.

These are fine maybe cause there such an old fashioned design I am not sure.

Anyway I am wrapt with it as it has a certain style about it and I reckon I will come to love it like my old 870's.

As far as a double being quicker, I reckon if your chasing pigs or foxes across open paddocks and you start with the lever gun stoked up with 6 it reckon it will be quicker.......................it will be good for that but a double would be better for shooting rabbits etc. in long grass.

I read this as it only having a 2 shot capacity. Are you saying it will hold 6 fully loaded? That would make more sense, I guess.

It will  actually hold seven rounds, 5 in the mag one on the carrier and one in the chamber !!

But it has the ability to dump two staright in the top and shut the lever, this was doen for the cowboy action shooters I beleive.
