simple venison dinner
« on: May 12, 2006, 10:45:19 AM »
Take one medium size roast.
Place in crock pot.
Cover with one quart of your favorite SALSA.
Add potatoes and carrots and any other favorite veggie.
Place in refrigerator over night to marinate in the salsa.
The next morning, plug in crock pot, turn on low, cook for 8-10 hours.
If you are in a hurry you can put a frozen roast and ingredients in the crock pot in the AM and it still works great.

This is my favorite roast recipe, so easy. Let me know if you like it and any variations. IT IS AS SPICEY AS THE SALSA YOU ADD. It is sooooo good!

Great Recipe.

I tried it this weekend with a little variation.

Rather than marinating the night before I browned the roast in a skillet. Cooked the roast and salsa all night. The next morning added potatoes, carrots and onions. Cooked until that afternoon. And man it was good.

Very good and very easy. Maybe my favorite.

Thanks,
CDA

Glad you enjoyed it. Salsa variations keeps this recipe interesting. I will try your tip on browning the roast first. I prepare this for my family often and they all enjoy it. I take between 1 and 5 deer a year so we dine on venison often.

Good Recipe. Used a pork Loin.  Cooked mine all day, couldn't take the roast out in one piece it just fell apart!  Good flavor.  Very easy.

I look forward to tweaking this one, too.

Made some day before yesterday and now I'm brewing up another pot. I've been using steaks because I seldom cut roasts. Maybe this fall I'll make some.

What are you gonna call this invention, can't go round calling it simple venison dinner. May I be the first to suggest Salsa Potroast.

No water is needed. Right now in our house we have a large quantity of fresh home made salsa made from the garden tomatos. The only problem is the small amount of venison left in the freezer. I plan on changing that soon. :D
