1895 Cowboy--Will scope work on it?
« on: May 17, 2006, 01:55:23 AM »
I know it would spoil its traditional look, but will a low power scope work on this gun? I read somewhere on this forum that it didn't lend itself well to a scope. I have to have a scope for hunting purposes.
Also, can swivel studs be added without causing any problems?

Yes you can put a scope on it, i dont know how the stock will fit for scope use though.  Just have to check it out when you do it.

It will work, but is blasphemy!
Any law that makes self-defense illegal or impractical is an illegitimate law, and should not be obeyed, because such a law ultimately subjects people to the criminal element.

What an awful thought of putting a scope on a cowboy. Actually, I put a Leopold on mine to check it for accuracy. Found that it was and took it off right away before some one saw me. Peep sights! Lonnnnnnnng sight radius. Works good. Sling? Call Brownell and get a magazine tube band sling mount and standard screw in for stock. Enjoy :D

I put a marbels tang sight on mine and got very good results.  I was certain that I would go to hell if I put a scope on it.

Leupold VX-I or II, 2-7x33 in Warne Quick Detach rings and bases, medium height (to clear the rear sight).  Williams FireSight front bead with Marlin "cut-out" sight hood, available from the factory.

A great setup.  'Blasphemy', my asphemy!

I agree! If you have trouble seeing the factory sights, try the AO Ghost Ring set up. It helped my old eyes a lot, but please, in the name of all things camo, don't scope a lever action!
