Ordered a bore lap kit.

My 3 3/4" Vaquero Birdshead just sprays bullets all over the target, even from a shooting rest.  Also, I can feel a constriction where the barrel screws into the frame.  SO, I'm going to bite the bullet (YUK! YUK!  :-D ) and fire lap the bore.  If that does not get the job done it'll get rebarreled (with a 5" custom barrel).  It either has to shoot straight or I'll sell it to the first sucker that comes along!

Dusty,
Is that a .45 Colt?  If so, did you ream the cylinders??

Please let me know what you think of the results from the firelapping...

Pistolsmith already did the cylinders for me.  I'll post when this project is done.

Hey, a drill bit will open up that constriction!  Just kidding.  That almost sounds like something that Ruger will have to fix.  I doubt that you will do much with bore laping.  I've done that in the past and it makes the bore shiney, but that's about all.  It sounds like Ruger screwed the barrel in too far and constricted it where it enters the frame.  Ruger should put a new barrel on it for you.  Elmer Keith used to complain about that problem on some guns.  44 Man

Veral Smith sez you can lap out that constriction & in as much as I've come to respect the man's knowledge I'm gonna give it a whirl.  If its a bust you'll read about it here!!
