Hornady spire points, on game performance.

What's your experience with these bullets?  I'm  looking for bullets that open fast, hold together and dump lots of energy, the only game I'll be hunting with them is whitetail deer that top out at about 180 pounds, so deep penetration isn't an issue, as long as it makes it through both lungs.  Thanks! My brother shot quite a few whitetails with a 6mm Rem, (which I consider on the small side caliber wise), The deer however didn't agree, all went directly in a pile.  The load was with a plain Hornady 100 gr. spirepoint.  All shots exited, including one that went through a 6" pine tree afterwards.  Unless you are shooting a super-fast cartridge, the Hornadys work great, and usually shoot good too.

I used hornady 150 gr. spire point  flat base interlock bullets in 30-06 last 2 years. going about 2800 fps.  VERY accurate out of a rem 710.  I made a BAD shot on a doe, hit  her broadside, high in the hind quarters, bullet hit the spine and changed direction, breaking some ribs, and came to rest on far side of shoulder. after hitting all that bone, the bullet still had a nice mushroom, and excellent weight retention. about 80%.   hit a buck looking straight at me in the chest, dropped like a sack o' spuds, and was dead in about 5 seconds.  hit another doe this past season, broadside, double lung shot, complete passthru.  she went about 50 yds., but great blood trail. I highly reccomend hornady bullets of any kind, they are usually more inexpensive than others, and seem to me to be of excellent quality.  I don't have to do much to get good groups with any of their bullets iv'e used. my 30-06 load groups could be covered with a nickle(5 shots @ 80 yds)  This was the first load I worked up, and the last for that gun.

The Hornady 165gr BTSP in the .30 cal is the only bullet a friend of mine has used in years and is the bullet I'm going to be using.  My friend has take 19 Elk, 3 moose, 4 Caribou, Antelope, African game, and a huge quantity of Whitetail with this bullet and refuses to use anything else including the more expensive bullets such Nosler Partitions and barnes bullets.  I would say he has probably taken 90-100 different game animals with this bullet.
