New sights for Thompson 1911

I purchased my Thompson with a missing front blade sight; the kind that insets into the slide and must be detented below (not the dovetailed kind).

I elect to dovetail the slide to replace the front blade sight.  I believe this will give me greater flexibility when selecting new sights.

Is this a difficult and expensive undertaking?

unless you happen to have a mill, with the correct dovetail cutter. you are going to want to consult with a gunsmith.

I started out many years ago gunsmithing because I was too poor to pay a real smith. I built several muzzle loaders before kits were available and learned to cut docetails with nothing more expensive than a paralell sided file and a cheap caliper. The best method is with a mill and I suggest you take it to a local one. Can it be done, yes but a screw up costs money to fix and time to boot.. A smith is easier..
