Finished New Bow

I thought you Guys might be interested in looking at the photos of my new Self bow I just finish it is 66" long 50# @  28"  Osage Orange sweet shooter. I have Python snake skin on the face. I cut  them down in size so they not take up to much space or time down loading them.

Bowhunter that is a pretty bow. How long did it take you to make it? I've thought about making one but I'm not sure even how to start.

The best thing I like about makeing my own self bows is when I want a new Bow all I have t is make one.  Get the The Bowyers Bible volume 1,2,3 they are full of info to help start you of building board bows or bows from stave.the info here on the net fir dry box is good to. got to this link to see how about dry box http://www.locustcreekbows.com/drybox.htm
hint thogh you may want to make it longer than 6' I sudgest 7' to 8' buy two sheet of plywood . plus put in a litlte fan to circulate the wind inside the box like the tower for your pc.
it took me two days to make this one but three fir the fuller plast to fully cure. I had the wood in the dry box for 8 weeks before I started working on it. here is another photo of the shelf I filed into the handle. All the tools needed are draw knife, bowyers edge,  and good farrier rasp. you need a shave hoarse or vise mounted on to solid work table to work with.

what do you mean by by rh% right Hand?
set?   do you mean limb set? that depends on the wood type and design used for the bow.  these books explain self arrows  how to make differant kinds, Explain how of Broadheads from flint, Bone, to steel. fletching your arrows done the old way. these books are loaded with information.

The avg cost for me to makle my own Bow is around without the fullerplast or any snake skin. I cut my own so getting the stave cost me around $15.00 with cutting,splitting, and drying the wood .
 You can use almost any type of wood.  I have from black Locust, hackberry, white oak (which is good bow wood in my book), and Osage orange (is tough but is very good wood to use as bow if hunting in bad weather and banging around areas after you work with it you will know why).
