They are all great!  Since you are shooting something on the nostalgic side, find one that floats your boat (make and caliber) and learn to shoot it well.  Over the years, I have really enjoyed several Winchester M1895s; great to load for and hunt with.  They always get a second look and strike up a fun conversation.  But the absolute top of my list is a Winchester M1876.  I cant cast and load rounds fast enough to keep me happy.  No mater what direction you go, lever actions are fun to shoot, maintain, reload for, and hunt with.  Good luck and have fun.  Centennial

Today it's my 50 year old Model 94 Winchester 3030. Tomorrow? My Model 92 or my 1895 CB?

In 1958 when I turned 14 my dad gave me his mod. 94 3030. Although I have trouble seeing through iron sights today it is still the sweetest gun I ever shot; perhaps I love it because it brings back  memories of hunting with my dad on cold November days.

When I was 18 or 19 (1968 or 69) my Dad gave me his Model 94 Winchester 3030 that he bought new in 1957. If someone told me I had to get rid of all my guns but one. There would be no question, the Winchester is not for sale. He didn't hunt and the gun looked new. Now the 50 year old gun looks very used. Taken care of, but used. I shoot it almost every week, and when my boys finally end up with it and see the bluing gone infront of the lever where it balances. They will know their fathers hand wore it off. The scratches on the worn stock, and the beat up but accurate Lyman peep sight, are my hand. I know what you mean. It's worth more than money to me and I hope to my oldest. I switch back and forth on my three levers. But this one is special.

I have two sons and they both appreciate guns.  I have two levers, one Marlin 30AW that I use for deer hunting, and a 9422M for small game.  I don't know which one will get which gun.  This applies to more than the levers.  I have a couple of my dad's guns and I treasure them.  One of these days I will need to decide who gets what when I am gone, and write it down.  I hope I make the right choices.

I have a friend that got too old to hunt anymore. He put a number on each gun, and a corresponding number in a hat. The boys took turns drawing numbers, until all the guns were taken. I understand there was some trading done afterward. Not a bad method, and fair.

My current favorite (maybe alltime favorite) is an old Winchester 1895.  POS original barrel so had the gunsmith rebarrell it with a 28" pipe chambered for the 405 WCF.  Actually I only load it with BP and lead so I guess I should have had it stamped 40-72.

Nice shooting gun.  Set up with aperture rear sight and Banded ramp front sight.

When I can I will get a photo posted.

OK, it's an addiction.  Here's what I like and dislike about what I have currently on hand, favorite comment follows.

99 Savage in .308 - powerful, heavy
1899 Savage take-down in .300 Savage - smooth, a bit heavy

'94 Winchester in .444 -  ooof da
'94 Win BB in .375 Win - SUPER!  great ballance between power/kick/weight
'94 Win in .30-30 - classic
'94 Trapper in .45 Colt - as with many, chamber is a bit big
'94 Trapper in .44 Mag - 94's don't handle short bullets as well as other models

336 Marlin in .35 Rem (1950 something with real rifling, half magazine) cool, but a little heavy.

'92 Winchester in .25-20 and
'94 Marlin Safety in .32-20  - these are MY favorites - balance, smoothness of action.

Would like to have a Trapper in .375Win and another in .357/.38SPCL. and why not one in .41 Mag and another in .32 H&R.

336 Marlin in .30-30 is ok too.

I have three lever action Marlins; 32 H&R Magnum, 38 special, and 45 Colt.  Like all three, shoot Black Powder with the 1895 45 Colt.  All three have octogon barrels....  However, my favorite lever action is my recently acquired Chaparral Arms 1876 .40-60 Winchester.  This rifle has a 28" heavy octogon barrel, the action is smoother than any of my Marlins (...and the 45 Colt is really slick...).  This rifle, Black Powder shooter, has beautiful wood and will report how well it shoots in two weeks...

Marlin 1894C 357 magnum, pick up a nice one the other day and got to shoot it this afternoon.
Very fun to shoot, I may take it out this next Saturday for our opening day of Deer season.
Got great 1" groups @100 yards today with little or no recoil, I wish I had got one of these earlier in my life.

I have a few lever actions but this is my favorite because it was my Dads, he bought it new in 1949. I shot my first Mule deer with it when I was 12, that was 35 years ago! Our house burnt down when I was 6, thats what made the blueing run, other than that it's ready for the field.

I currently have three favorites...

A Marlin 336 (30-30) made in 1943 that's smooth as glass.

My 1970 Belgian BLR in .308

My new best friend is a Winchester 1895 saddle ring carbine (30-06) that I bought last week. The only thing I don't like is the ladder sight is made of plastic. Pretty cheezy for a gun of this price. I'm waiting on the Buffalo Arms repro of the Lyman sight made for 1895's...

Depends on where I have my stand set up.  If most of the shots are 75 yards or less, I use the Marlin 94 in .357, equipped with a Willaims peep and a green dot.  If over 75 yards, the 336 with a small 1.5-4.5 scope gets the nod.

The 357 gets home rolled XTPFP's with a near full dose of LilGun, the 30-30 gets factory Core locks.
