Report: China claims its tech can detect U.S. stealth jets

China’s military claims it has developed technology to detect U.S. F-22 jet fighters.

The F-22 is the newest Air Force jetfighter equipped with radar-evading stealth characteristics. The first jets entered service last year.

According to a report from a weapons research institute in China, the Chinese military has developed “a number” of technologies that can be used to detect and attack stealth jets.
The U.S. military pioneered the use of stealth jets with the F-117 fighter-bomber, the B-2 strategic bomber and the new F-22. The jets use composite material and unique shapes to reduce radar signatures.

"Owing to the fact that some technologies and means of stealth planes were developed in light of current air defense system, we totally can, through analyzing their technologies and facts, weaken or eliminate their stealth capability," a Chinese expert was quoted as saying in the PRC-owned Ta Kung Pao newspaper.
The effort involves the use of multiple sensors to measure reflected radar beams from targets. The new system permits locating and locking on to the targets.

The Chinese expert claimed the technology has been “mastered.”

To my knowledge the Chinese haven't had an origional idea in over 60 years.....if they have it they either stole if from us, or it won't work.......

They are great at copying someone else's ideas and tech.

I know that the Iraqi tanks had a method of detecting our jets too; you just look back along the path the laser guided bomb came from, and there was the jet  :)

IIRC the method of 'detecting' stealthy aircraft relies on using radars that illuminate the aircraft from one side, and having the receivers detect the reflected radar from another direction. Stealthy aircraft do reflect some radar, but they are designed to minimize the reflection straight back towards the emitting radar.  By illuminating them from a different angle, the stealth characteristics are diminished. I'm sure our techs have a handle on it. Hopefully the spies that seem to get all our latest gear to the Chinese, haven't got this yet.

The best response to this "News Flash" I can think of is BLOWING SMOKE! The only thing they invented was firecrackers, and that was 600 years ago. No F-15 has ever been defeated in air to air combat, but they put 8 F-15's up against 2 F-22's in an actual engagement excersize(simulated weapons) and the F-15's  were all defeated and didn't even get a shot at the F-22's. The chinese are afraid of our capabilities and are just throwing up a BS claim to try and avoid having their butts kicked should they ever step over the line. They can put a lot of planes in the air, but very few are going to return to base.

Well said.

Any country we go to war with won't be flying the friendly skies.

We own the air, and when you do that in any war, you will be dang near impossible to beat.

I was sitting in Bangkok when King George I started the air war of the first Gulf War.

Upon my return to China, all my Chinese friends were in awe.  Up to that time, the Chinese thought that if they threw enough men at an aggressor they would be victorious.

When the tomohawk missles started flying through windows, and the laser guided bunker buster bombs started appering on CNN(Communist network news, the only american news allowed in China) they were forced to rethink their military position.  The ground war started during my stint in the Chinese oil Fields.  Again, this caused grave concern in China.

Double digit growth in the Chinese military over the past several years is the result.  The Pentagon in concerned and has asked China to explain it.

They ought to be concerned.  China with it's population, and with a modern military would make a very worthy adversary indeed.

Realize that the manufacture, importation, and sales of Chinese goods in this and other countries are providing the money to grow the Chinese military.  Think about that every time you purchase something that says Made in China.
