would like to know if one of you has successfully put a scope on a Remington 513 SA.....has the traditional lyman peep on it.....but have interest in mounting a 4x......reciever is shy of the metal depth for a traditional scope base....at least in my opinion

Aren't the receivers grooved for the old tip off Weaver bases? I recall my best friend had his scoped but for the life of me I can't recall if it was a tip off or if he had it drilled and tapped. But for sure it was scoped with an old Redfield 10X I sold him perhaps 30 years ago. He's no longer with us or I'd call him and ask.

He sure could shoot that old rifle.

boy, not sure what to look for with the grooves you mention.....my thought was that maybe a base was available to take advantage of the taps used to mount the lyman peep.....quite a bit of sight support apparatus on the left side of the reciever for the overhang of the peep.....but what I am hearing from a local smith is that an overhanging scope supported on one side wouldn't be reliable for long.....to easily nudged out of zero, according to him....but still, I have to believe it can be done.....

it is a sweet shooter out to 100 yards.....and would love to max out its precision.....

I'd listen to the gunsmith and abandon that idea. Not good.

Look on the top of the receiver to see if it has two parallel grooves approximately 3/8" apart. If so it's grooved for tip off rings and they will be all you need to mount a scope. Other wise you need to have the smith decide which Weaver style base is correct for the contour and have him drill and tap for it.

I just cannot recall which route my friend went with his.

I just looked in the Gun Trader's Guide and I see no mention of a grooved receiver on this gun so I think you'll need to have the smith D&T it.
