Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk?
« on: May 21, 2006, 02:20:50 PM »
I am looking for a new revolver for hunting, snake disposal, and for fun.  I am looking at either the 41 mag Blackhawk (6.5") or the 44 mag SBH (5.5").  I load my own ammo, so availability is not a concern.  I am not sure what all the differences are, but I do know the 41 Blackhawk is a few ounces lighter.  I looked up the ballistics, and either cartridge will be powerful enough for me.  I am sort of leaning towards the 41, but is there something about the SBH that I am missing?  Which do you prefer?
Thanks.

The blued Blackhawk has an aluminum grip frame making them a bit lighter to tote. Stainless steel BH and all SBHs have steel (or SS) grip frames. Both guns are hell-for-stout.

I like the bullet selection better on the 44. Brass is more available too. The 44 will do everything a 41 will do but a 41 comes up a little short for the really heavy loads.

:cb2: You can't really go wrong with either one. Since you reload, ammo availability isn't a problem. The heaviest bullets I've fired in my .41 is the 240-gr. Winchester Platinum Tips and they are terrific. However, all I have shot with them are paper. You will have more bullets available for the .44. I guess you'll have to decide if you want to be shootin' what everyone else has got, or be the guy on the wild side, and watch their eyebrows rise when they ask, ".44?" and you say, "Naw, .41 mag."  :)

go with the .41 if you're to be reloading.  handloads can really make that cartridge sing.  It'll do whatever the "mighty" .44 will do w/o the recoil.  Member also, that "big" .44 is really only a .429 magnum.
