rules rules rules....!!!can anyone clarify for me
« on: May 23, 2006, 03:18:20 AM »
Good day fellow silhouette shooters,

I have a scenario that I would like clarified by NRA silhouette rifle shooters.  Its all to do with shoot offs.

OK here goes say we have 2 or more shooters after a match sitting on the same score and these shooters are in different classes so eg one shooter is in AAA another in AA and another in A and they all have the same score so we need to decide who is 1st 2nd 3rd etc.  Now under NRA rules do all these shooters shoot off on a chosen animal that has been nominated at the beginning of the competition OR do they each shoot of on the animal under their class such as AAA shoot at Turkeys AA Rams and A chickens....and is the shoot off sudden death OR do they have to shoot a set of 5 to decide who has knocked more over?

All help would be very much appreciated.

The pertinent rule is: 15.  Decision of ties

Match winner in rifle is GENERALLY decided by shootoffs on turkeys. ALL shooters (no matter what class), when competing for overall winner, shootoff on the same animal.

CLASS winners shootoff on their respective animals.

The reason for the 'generally' remark is that 15.3(b) specifically says that "Alternate methods of tie breaking may be used." (But those alternatives are NOT defined.)

IOW, while the norm is for everyone in contention for MW to shoot 'one-shot sudden death' on turkeys, you may also (AFAIK) shoot five shot strings, use reverse animal count, flip a coin, base it on who's tallest/shortest/cutest, have their wives/husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends mud-wrestle for it...or do just about anything else you want!  :-D

This assumes that we're talking about SB or HP.
BPCR is a little different.
