Went to my trusty gun shop today and put an order in for a new Handi Rifle in .223. I cant wait til it comes in. I got the regular barrel since the Handi barrels are already heavy like they are. I intend on topping it off with a Swift Premier 4-12x40mm or either a 6-18x40. I haven't decided yet. Will be using the same set up for bases and rings as on my 243. I can't wait. I feel like a kid at Christmas. :-D

Congrats... I'm not a big fan of the Ultra heavy barrels either... in fact my .223 Handi has the Superlight contour 20" barrel and I like it alot! (It actually started out as a Youth model, but I replaced the butt-stock with an adult model.)

My .243 has the same kind of barrel and although it rears back more than the  .223 it's not at all unpleasant to shoot, and is a joy to carry.

This is one of the reasons that I like NEF as they try to please all of us. The regular barrel is OK but I tend to prefer the heavier ones & I can
for sure get more steady with the Heavier ones, especially in the wind.

I hope you enjoy your rifle!!  :D

I had the exact scope on a .223 handi and now have it on my 17 Remington Savage.  They are very nice scopes, I have the 4-12X40.  Larry

Howdy everyone:
Am fixing to buy a handi centerfire and a .17M2, or HRM barrel before long.

Finding the way they mix and match things and barrels is quite confusing.
Sure be nice IF they'd make about five lists:

Stocks, actions, barrels inc wt's, calibers, and just let the buyer pick out what we want.

It's not quite that easy at this point as some barrels and cal's are available only with some actions, and/or some combo's.

I do like the prices so far.

Has anyone besides Trotter rechambered for some other cartridge that's not available?  I'd like to hear more about that. As I'm going to make one up to shoot the .17x28mm (5.7x28mm necked down) this is a very impressive little case. I've only got one dummy so far plus some 5.7 cases someone mailed me.

Thanks,
George

The 5.7x28 was recently discussed, use the search function to find the posts.

Many here have done rechambers, some have also done rebores, Mac and I had .25-06 barrels rebored/rechambered to .338-06 A-Square, I have a .45-120 BC from .45-70, a .405 Winchester Target from a .38-55 and a .35 Remington from a .357Mag. Rechambers can be as cheap as renting a reamer, a good smith will charge $75-$100. A rebore/rechamber will cost $300-$350.
