 Manager Recruitment

The Rabbit Creek Shooting Park is now recruiting for a new range manager to oversee its operations. We are looking for someone with firearms and shooting range experience; experience supervising other employees, managing a budget and overseeing a public facility or private business; strong personal initiative and creativity; and demonstrated ability to get along with others and forge partnerships with businesses and the hunting public.  The job is posted at: www.workplace.alaska.gov under “View Job Postings” and is listed as a Wildlife Technician V with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation.  You must apply for this job on-line by 5:00 pm, June 9th.

Hey, I've got about eight years experience as a press mechanic in a can plant.  Would that qualify me? :)

Alaska has a pretty strict resident hire rule and that would be the first hurdle.  But if you're really interested locate the website and drop a note.  I see I didn't properly get the web site link posted.  Sorry on that.

Position Description:



The Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for the position of Range Manager (classified as a Fish & Wildlife Technician V) for the Rabbit Creek Shooting Park in Anchorage. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our staff.

The Rabbit Creek Shooting Park operates Wednesday – Sunday, providing multiple ranges designed for handguns, rifles, shotguns and archers. Over 22,000 shooter visits are recorded each year. The park also offers a venue for hunter education instruction.  The Shooting Park is an outdoor facility, operating 11 months a year.

This position is a vital member of the Hunter Information and Training (HIT) team. The position is supervised by the Statewide Program Coordinator for the HIT program. Duties for Range Manager position include the following:

Insure firearm safety protocols for patrons of the park.
Lead and evaluate the work of 3 – 4 paid staff members.
Prepare work schedules for staff.
Budget manager for operational expenditures.
Supervise cash handling and revenue accounting.
Direct and complete maintenance projects for the Shooting Park facility and equipment.
Coordinate activities and develop community partnerships with shooting groups and clubs.
Promote Shooting Park activities to the general public.
Recruit volunteer range safety officers.
