Its fun and buy a decent detector.. do some research  on collector websites and see what they recommend and also possibly Consumer rpts  on line would be a  help.. If you are looking for old stuff  go to where creeks meet rivers ect and high ground there  and thats where  camps were made.. you will get the hand of it after awhile...

Rdfx    I bought a detector&headphones, should be here today.I'm going over to our cabin on the Missouri River for 7 days of walleye fishing.Thought I'd practice around the old boat ramp and campgrounds. My friend told me I could use it to find trapsets if I didn't remember where I put them.I told him I wouldn't have to as the old catch circles and coyote sitting in the trap are a dead giveaway.

yoteo of the north ya best watch your bragging...the Red gods have a way of getting back at ya.  And, when snow combines with drags the detector will help you determine if you need to go looking.

I've had a metal detector since 1976 but haven't had time to use it in recent years.  I found a whole lot of old coins and a lot of newer money too. My best luck for old coins was in the playgrounds of old schools and old parks. I even found two $2.50 gold pieces lying side by side in an old park that was around since the 1800's. In the Spring when the frost pushes up the copins are barely below the surface even though they have been there for 100 years. . I tried the old lumber camps but had to dig through all sorts of metal, especially buckles from a million horse harnesses. Also, the curse of any place but a schoolyard or park in my area is that the ground everywhere is littered with 22 shells along with other cartridges. Maybe the newer detectors will disciminnate out brass without discriminating out silver but my older one would miss silver if brass was discriminated out. Good luck, hope you find some good things! Ace

Ha Wacky, im sure ol Yotero knows EXACTLY what i referred to.   Problem with an OLD researcher like you is senilaty;  Yotero and myself  empathize with your problem most likely coming from infatuation with kitty spots in being in the dried up state of NM which im sure caused dehydration!!  :-D

Aha, you [assumed Wacky], not very scientific if i must say myself.  Just think of Yotero could find a blacksmithed forged bvr trap or something along that line.  THat would be neat or else a trade axe.... endless possiblities.

Bought a Lund 1660 Pro V with a 60 Merc tiller.Took her out Sunday. My father and I caught 10,17 to 21 inch walleyes in an hour and a half.Man are they fat.Been saving the walleye fat,sun rendering it.I think it shows real promise in mink, coon and cat lures.Haven't got to swing the detector yet, been too busy.Hey Wacky, smell my hands, that's beer battered walleye

Wacky   you are invited to the lake.I bought a mobile home on one of the bays on Sakakawea. It has 2 bedrooms. The rest of June and most of July are real good fishing. It slows down some in August then picks mid September to ice up.If you want to come in October we can run a couple coyote lines along the Missouri River breaks by boat. You should see the saddles in the ridges above the river and the game/cow trails that run down to the lake. Most of it is too rough for truck access from above. The coyotes are real nice, pale and well furred.I'm planning on getting a non resident trapping license and running a boat line. There's great mallard and Canada goose hunting about 4-5 miles from the trailer. As non residents we can't take bobcats though.I should have about 900-1000 gallons of waxed dirt ready and plenty of traps.Be warned I snore real bad.

Whay in the heck is coyotero still a non-resident?  And can non-residents take coyotes before the big game seasons are over?

RdFx why don't you come along and skin for us?  I'll bring my tent for you to use...it don't leak too bad.

Yotereo, are you coming to Blackfoot this coming weekend?
