A question about my Beretta.

I own a Beretta A303 semi-automatic  12 ga. shotgun.  How many rounds does it hold and can I remove something from the magazine to put more rounds in?  I'm planning on using this as a home defense weapon.

Tha manual says it should only be done by a gunsmith.
