I have a 59/66 that I got "unissued". (sers. match) Completely de-cosmolined and refinished it looks pretty darn good. I'd really like to make this my folding stock "truck gun". Do you think its worth keeping stock or not. It will get more use if I "customize". Any collecter value?

 We'll probably be dead and gone long before your SKS builds enough "collectors value" to feel bad about chopping into it. BUT having said that I have yet to handle an aftermarket SKS stock that is not a big step DOWN in comfort and functionality over the original stocks.

The folding SKS stock is a "cool" factor.In actual practice they tend to make the rifle akwardly front heavy.It just loses all balance and accuracy is difficult due to the way it bounces around.

I won the rifle in a drawing but after putting some work into it I hesitated to change it dramatically. I can check reliability before I make any permanent changes. I'm aware of the laws, by the way. Thank you very much for your responses. :D

As soon as the yugo sks's dryup there goes the sks value across the board on all of them going up in price.  I thinks its the available of the yugo's right now thats keeping the prices down on all the sks's.  If we look at the past history of the Russian, Chinese, Romanian and Albanian sks's the prices did climb when they dried up.

With that said i think a lesser condition yugo sks would make a great truck gun like you want as far as touching an unissued one to build I wouldn't suggest it.  Its up to you its your sks if you want it was a shooter/truck gun then its up to you.

Well, actually, there are some SKS that are worth quite a bit of money, such as the Chrome Chinese Honor Guard SKS, and a few others.

Just changing the stock out doesnt PERMANENTLY alter the rifle.  You can put it back to stock in a few minutes.  To me a gun is only useful if its being USED.  If the aftermarket stock will make the gun more useful to you then swap the stock, put the original safely away and go about your business.

If it becomes worth 1 billion dollars later in life you can put it back together.
