Freedom Arms 454; shooting impressions, front sights, etc...
« on: March 31, 2003, 05:17:24 PM »
:D I took my FA Field Grade 454 with 4.75" barrel out today.  Shot some factory 240 gr bullets at 20 yds.  Wow!!!  This is fun stuff.  Recoil wasn't nearly as stout as I'd expected.  Accuracy was a little under two inches but I wasn't shooting too well.

Problems?  The rear sight (same as what's on by Ruger SBH oddly enough) was screwed all the way down and groups were still 4" high.  Where can I buy some taller front sights?

I ordered a holster from A.E. Nelson Leather Company in Oregon and will send the grip frame off to SK Custom Grips later this week...so I can get rid of those Pachmayrs.

Heavier bullets will hit even higher, if you plan on shooting 300 gr or more be sure to mention that when asking FA about a new front sight, they may have an even taller one for heavy bullets.

Matt,

If you need any hardcast bullets for the 454, let me know.  I have an RCBS 300 gr swc gc mold, 300 gr gc Freedom Arms mold (essentially an LFN) and a custom 340 gr gc mold my buddy calls an XFN that has the same meplat as 475 WFN.
