I recently bought a "new" Marlin, a 336 SC, short-tube 20" barrel lever rifle in .35 Rem. It needed some work, so I cleaned it up, applied a little blue, and added :
New Marlin rear sight with the folding Buckhorn - I can really see this sight and it picks up fast in the field.
a Limbsaver butt pad for my aging, surgery-scarred chest.
Uncle Mike's front sling swivel attatched to the mag tube, and butt cuff holding 200gr Remington CoreLokt ammo.
This is a very fast handling and smooth working gun, that will do all my hunting trips calling for a centerfire rifle.
I understood the former owner to say it was made in 1961, but just in case, the SN is U 46xx, if anyone knows the date.( Thanks, in advance.)
Rifle has the old style fat foreend and smooth black walnot stock, with the gold trigger and microgroove rifling, all of which is OK with me.
It looks and works just like the one I had immagined having for the last several years, so this is my "dream rifle," I guess.
Cost $175 plus the usual fees and taxes.
I am a happy guy.
Mark
PS I was just starting high school in 1961 - this rifle is in better shape than I am.
