Pro Hunter vs. Walnut????
« on: May 29, 2006, 04:24:56 AM »
Hey guys,

I was wondering what you guys think of the new Pro Hunter flex tech stock compared to the walnut for recoil reduction.  I'm pretty sure the walnut stock is going to weigh a little more, but then again TC claims that the new F.T. stock reduces recoil by 43% or something.  I'm am probably going to buy the frame only, and at my local gun shop, the walnut frames are about 75 bucks less than the new ones.  I will probably start with a light caliber, like .243, but intend on adding more powerfull barrels as time goes on(.300, .405, .375, ect.). Any insight about this would be greatly appreciated.  I need some help before spending my money!

thanks,

I've handled, but haven't shot the new Pro Hunter.  I do shoot an Encore 50 Cal., .260, and 7mm-08 with wooden stock with a SIMS recoil pad.  The SIMS pad is remarkable for recoil reduction and my bet is that it's every bit as good as the recoil reduction in the Pro Hunter.  SIMMS recoil pad costs $25 - $30 new.

Just for some information, the Pro-hunter stock has a built in recoil reduction system in the stock as well as a Simms recoil pad. So just a Simms recoil pad will not equal the reduction of the Pro-hunter. I have a Pro-hunter in a 50 Cal M/L and the recoil is a lot less than my Encore 50 Cal M/L with a walnut stock with a Simms pad.  :D

Good to know. My wife wants her own gun now that she is into hunting more seriously. She took a pig this year and is now hooked on big game hunting. I have been seriously considering the Encore but waiting to here some real life  experiences with the new Pro-hunter recoil reduction sytem.

She like the TCs, so we decided to get her an encore, but we were not sure about the Pro-hunter. I think we will get her a Pro-hunter with a .280 Rem barrel and a 223 barrel. Probably add a .50 cal muzzleloader later.
I was hoping that the recoil reduction system would do what it says. She shoots a 30-06 OK, so she is not recoil sensitive, but I think the less recoil the better, so she will feel comfortable with the gun. Glad to here it works, sure does look slick, even though I am partial to tradional walnut stocks.

Good shooting,
Brian

TCBrian, I have used the Pro-hunter stock with my 50 Cal M/L and my 7mm-08 barrel and the recoil in my opinion was very mild. I shot in a t-shirt and it did not bother my shoulder one bit. I also have the Pro-hunter with the thumb hole stock and the felt recoil was just as mild as the non-thumb hole stock.  :D
