A few questions
« on: May 29, 2006, 08:38:02 PM »
1.If I'm picky with my reloads(match components, good case prep, etc.),what kind of accuracy can I expect from the H&R bull barrels in 308,22-250 and 243?

2.On the Ultra Varmint Fluted stocks,is the bi-pod wobbly when mounted on the slider rail?

3.On the same stock, does it have an aluminum skeleton in the forend?

4.With a 44mm Obj. scope,BC flip-ups,and H&R mount, will Burris medium rings be tall enough with the bull barrels?

5.I've heard that H&R's don't respond well to hot loads or neck sizing only,is this right?

First off...Welcome Aboard   :D

1)...Averages for all of these barrels are quite good to exceptional...

2)..I don't know..I don't have this stock

3)See above

4)A lot will depend on where you have the scope positioned for eye relief..I have a 44mm objectice in medium mounts..but not with flip up caps..

5)..This will depend on the individual rifle and shooter more than anything else..All of my Handi's shoot good hot or cold..I neck size all of them till I have to bump the shoulder back..Opinions vary greatly on this forum as which is the best way of reloading for the Handi's..and what works well with my reloading techniques may not work well with someone elses set up.I don't nor have at the present a 22-250 barrel...but have owned the 308 bull and the 243 bull...While the 308 was a 1/2" shooter with Federal Match ammo..and the heavier weight bullets..I hadn't found a exceptional load with it with the 150 grain bullet until I sold it...The 243 is another matter entirely for me...It was one exceedingly accurate barrel with varmint bullets and the heaviest weight deer hunting bullets..and shot for me sub 1/2 moa groups as fast as I could set and fire them...I sold the barrel, dies, brass, and bullets to mitchel who has gotten it to be a sub 1/4" moa shooter with the 55 grain varmint bullets...so I would say he is exceedingly pleased with it as well..

6) Utilize the search feature and look over the mulitude of threads on these topics and calibers..you will see exactly what I mean..

Welcome to GBO!! There's an insert for the T-rail but no metal skeleton.

Some have had problems with a bipod being loose and needed to use shims to allow it to tighten against the Choate Varmint forend. FWIW, I've got one of the Outers bipods on mine, it fits nice and tight.

I don't think you'll have any problems with scope caps on a 44mm scope, there's plenty of room at the AO, but clearance for the hammer will be an issue, as Mac stated, it depends on how far back you mount it, I can usually have the scope positioned in relation to the hammer so it just clears the power ring and/or ocular bell with medium Burris Signature Zee rings, but sometimes highs are required, it will depend on the scope.

Be sure to read the FAQ and Help sticky info if you haven't already, lots of info in there to help answer questions.

See the Search tips sticky to help ya use the search feature.
