CONGRESS TO CONSIDER FIREARMS COMMERCE RELIEF BILLÂ…H.R. 1834, the Firearms Commerce Modernization Act, would remove several antiquated restrictions on firearms business by the Gun Control Act of 1968. The restrictions ban virtually all interstate transfers between private citizens; most interstate handgun sales by licensed dealers; firearm dealers from doing business at venues other than their licensed premises or at gun shows in their own state; and dealer-to-dealer transfer of firearms while away from their business premises. Proponents of H.R. 1834, introduced by Georgia Rep. Phil Gingrey, contend that modern background checks make these 1968 restrictions unnecessary.
