VERMONT ACTS AGAINST NUISANCE LAWSUITS
« on: May 30, 2006, 12:48:06 PM »
VERMONT ACTS AGAINST NUISANCE LAWSUITS…If you don’t like the sound of gunfire, don’t move near a shooting range. That’s what Vermont’s legislature and governor are telling citizens via a new law meant to cut the growing number of nuisance lawsuits against ranges. The law specifies that people who live next to pre-existing shooting ranges and gun clubs cannot successfully sue over noise pollution complaints as long as those facilities are following all applicable state and local laws.

I wish every state would pass this one!!

Sounds good to me.  We had a guy build a house 1/4 mile down the road from our range who tried to get us to stop shooting.  He also tried to get the farmer to no longer have cows because they smelled and made noise.  Fortunately he got no where with either, but I am not sure we will be left alone forever.  A law like this would go a long way.

I gun club I new of in southern New Jersey was going threw all kinds of legal hassles because a developer had built a huge development of McMansions on what used to be farm land adjacent to the gun club which had been there for about 75 years.  I painted a lot of those McMansions for the builder and when home owners would see the NRA sticker on my truck and start commenting about 'their problem' with the gun club I would just smile and say "Guess you should have checked out the neighborhood a little better before you bought your house." I eventually moved out of NJ and never did hear what the final outcome was.
