Recent Handi-holic. I have an AR15 and a TC Encore but these NEF's are great. I was wondering if I could use a 45/70 blackpowder cartridge on a SB1 frame. I have a BC 45/70, Pardner .410, and a .243WIN rifle. I have 5 stocks, 5 barrels and 3 receivers. Still waiting for muzzleloader barrel to come back from Gardner, MA. I have been hanging out on this forum for a month a could not find the answer about using a blackpowder load for my 45/70 on a SB1 frame. I know I could just use my other SB2 receivers but my inquiry mind wants to know.

Welcome aboard, Jerry!

I think the SB1 frame would work fine with black powder, Tanoose shot smokeless in his .45-70 barrel on an SB1 frame for a while with no problems. The older H&R Shikari .45-70 was fine with trapdoor loads, I think the current SB1 frames are at least as strong if not stronger. Here's a great read on a blackpowder .45-70 Handi by Junior Doughty.

It'll work just fine. I've been shooting black in my Shikari as well as a B/C barrel on an SB-1.
It's a dream to clean........just remove the barrel.

Hi,

O.K. mayby I am missing something here.... If you already have a standard SB-2 frame why would anyone drop in grade to a SB-1 frame?? Logicly accuracy would be improved slightly by the more rigid and sturdier frame.

Help me out here as I really don't understand this....

With black, you can go either way.....the frame's are all strong enough. I used a Shikari frame with a B/C barrel for a while so I could get away from the "Lawyer" trigger and the transfer bar.
Some guys like the case-hardened shotgun frame style and don't want to buy a B/C to get it.

I guess you would just have to get in my head but here's my logic. I left my .243 SB2 with my buddy in Oklahoma to shoot hogs and coyotes. He has an eight y/o son so I thought I would give him a .50 cal ML with a 4x scope but to start him out I gave him a .410 barrel so he can shoot .45/.410 to get used to the recoil without getting one of those eye rings with the scope (ha,ha). I would like to keep the BC (SB2) like it is because I like the wood furniture and also to shoot cowboy action along with the marlin .38/55 lever action. That leaves me with the pardner (SB1) receiver that I could shoot the 3.5 inch 12 gauge loads and also the 45/70 blackpowder and another .50 Cal ML barrel that I have.

Like I said: I Have the handi-holic affliction real bad. Is there medicine for that?

Welcome Phramboy to the forum! I think every one has answer
your Questions, But I have 6 frames 9 barrels. I keep the shot guns
on the SB-1 " s Rifle barrels on SB-2 frames, Just my ideas.
