Sims Vibretion Labs Barrel De-resonator (think Limb Saver)
« on: June 04, 2006, 02:05:51 AM »
Hello from Georgia,
I would like to hear from anyone who has used one of these de-resonators on a Handi rifle. After researching a bit I have found mixed reviews on its effectiveness. In theory at least it seems that it would help increase accuracy especially in rifles with longer barrels. I am in the process of breaking in my NEF .280 with a few different handloads and trying to dial in a "pet load". I am getting 1.25" groups off the bench with some middle of the road loads and I know that 1" is obtainable.

The Limb Savers are a good addition to a compound bow since they do help with the vibration so I am thinking that they may be one more way to help get all possible accuracy out of our Handis. Thanks.

Good morning Georgia Dave, I hope everything is ok in your neck of the woods. To your question on the Sims product, I have seen them on tv and was wondering the same thing. I was wondering if you have tried installing the washer on the forend that is mentioned in the stickys yet. I just got my secong Handi the other day, this one in a .223. I am getting .8 groups out of it at 80 yards without the washer, but I intend on installing it next time to the range to see the difference. You may have already tried this, but if not this could help your accuracy without having to use the Sims product. My washer cost me ten cents. I hope you get it worked out the way you want it. Good luck.

I tried one on a Weatherby 270 a while back.It worked pretty good with various factory loads and did tighten the groups up somewhat.I have it still but found no need to use it on my Handi's..all of them shoot sub-moa anyway.Quickdtoo did try one about the same time as I did on his..but didn't get real good results if I recall..he already had a good shooter too...and I think it caused his groups to open up somewhat..

My 280 is a shooting machine with the 140 grain Remington core lock factory load..you might want to give them a try and see how they do..and check the FAQ sticky at the top of the page for tips on accurizing your Handi..if you haven't already done so..

Good Luck :D

I've bought one for my .308 barrel but have not yet shot it, just to hot!  My neighbor has one on his bolt 30-06 said it helped it by about a .5'' 2'' groups to 1.5'' but he tried it on his 7 mag and said it didnt seem to help.  So there you go more mixed reviews. He did not move it up and down the barrel, jsut slid it on about a 1'' from stock.  :D

I put one on my 223 ultra. set it about 1 inch from forearm and plan on never taking it off. Shot 1.5 inch groups before now there closer to 3/4 inch groups with wwb 45 gr. still get a flyer once in a while but that is probably from too much coffee.
