Ha!  You only saw Southeastern (The Seattle Suburbs), thats just a drop in the bucket.   Comeback and see the other 4/5ths of the state.  But make it in July or August.

SD550 get to surfing

If you only have a week near Anchorage, start surfing now and make a plan.  The time will go faster than your $$ - and they'll go plenty fast.

Find the Anchorage Convention and Visitor's Bureau web site,
http://www.anchorage.net/

the Alaska Dept Of Fish and Game web site
http://www.state.ak.us/adfg/adfghome.htm  has a ton of stuff including weekly fishing reports, general fishing planning info and so on.

Or look into fishing out of the Willow and Talkeetna area - there are jet boat services, air taxis, guides, lodges, day trips, or overnight opportunities.

I August there should be some silver salmon fishing going on in quite a few places.

There is lots to do but there are usually a lot of tourists so some things can be booked up fast.  A day cruise out of Whittier or Seward is always nice - or charter fishing.  You might even be able to fish at Ship Creek right in down town Anchorage - depends on what you like to do.

Good luck.

Or you could just live here, then you get ther scenery everyday  :-D  :-D   Though somewhat marred opinion from living here...  I still think that Seward is the most beautiful place in Alaska.  I would also recommend checking out the AK peninsula, and some of the smaller places around Denali.  If you want to see some sights, you need to get off of the beaten path.

Thanks for the info.. I'm wanting to see some of the out of the way places, but I know time will be a factor. The main reason for the trip is to check out a job   , so I might take some of carbanzo's advice "could just live here"  in the near future   .

Thanks..........sd550

There probally is no most beautiful place in Alaska, other than Anchourage and Fairbanks, its all beautiful. Of course its a short ride from either to get lost.

My favorite place up there was the "Haul Road" up to Prudoe Bay. I heard its all open now and you can drive up there. On top of the Brooks and out on the tundra is something everyone should experience.

I flew in to a few glaciers a couple times, and its great in there but even with the lack of roads, theres so much to see you wouldn't believe it.

You're on quite a roll here, Sourdough. I know they say great minds think alike. Well, I hain't got no great mind so I'm not sure if there's an implication there or not, but I couldn't agree more with what you're saying.

Alaska's roads in summer are no picnic but the "Top of the World" would make it high on my list as a real and recommended view as well - literally in several ways - and you get to see the Yukon if you cross over to Dawson and follow it around.
