Rifle ammo?
If you could measure the length of the case that would be helpful.
Aim small don't miss.

post a picture - of the entire round.  It shouldn't be too hard to figure out if we could see it.

Save the photo on photobucket.com and use the URL or IMG links.

case length of 2.235 equals 56.77mm
bullet diameter of .322 equals 8.18mm

If that case is not rimmed, my guess is 8mm Mauser, but that is a guess.
Aim small don't miss.

The *S leads me to believe that it it is probably WWII era
7.92x57 (8MM Mauser) The *S was the designation I think that
meant .323 bore instead of .318.
I have a bunch of it myself. Is it in dark brown cardboard
boxes? flip up the top of the box and see if it has a 3 letter code and a date imprinted into the cardboard. something like (byf. 1944)
that is what all of mine has. Probably German production.
Mine has Copper jacketed Iron core bullets probably because they were scratching the bottom of the barrel for resources.
Another interesting thing, Every single round looks like it had been
sandblasted? I would not have been the poor fool doing that!
Sandblasting builds up a serious static charge!
